Dear runners,

Unfortunately we must inform you of the sad news that Petra Marathon will not be taking place anymore.

It is no longer possible to obtain the permission to run inside Petra. UNESCO and the local authorities have found the activity of running near the fragile sandstone structures, like Al-Khazneh and others, too large a threat to the preservation and protection of the world heritage site of Petra and permission can therefore no longer be granted.

While we are very sad about this decision we fully respect and understand the position of UNESCO and the local authorities and have thus decided to meet the request of closing down Petra Marathon.

We will continue to arrange Adventure Marathons around the world and hope to see you at one of our other races in the future.
