Practical information
Kindly note that entry to the Petra Marathon is only available with the purchase of a full tour itinerary. We do not offer start numbers only.
Visa
Travelers must carry a passport valid for at least 6 months from date of departure from Jordan. A visa is required for entering Jordan. Normally
a visa can be obtained upon arrival in Jordan, but citizens of certain countries need to apply for a visa prior to departure. For the most recent
updated rules and regulations as well as a list of countries needing to apply in advance, please see
the official website of Jordan Tourism Board.
We recommend that you contact the Jordanian embassy or consulate in your home country for more information about visa to Jordan.
It is solely the client's responsibility to ensure they are in possession of the necessary documentation, and in compliance with the laws and
regulations of the country visited.
Accommodation
All hotel accommodation in Jordan is in 5 star hotels. During itinerary 1, however, the night in Jerusalem is in a 4 star hotel and the night in Wadi Rum is in a basic tented camp.
Names of the hotels are given to participants 1 month prior to departure.
Travel Insurance
A Gouda Travel Insurance is included in the price for all participants. The insurance covers in case of illness and/or injury during the trip.
Furthermore a Cancellation Insurance due to Illness can be taken out at the time of booking. This insurance secures a full refund of the trip in case that severe illness (personal or in the nearest family) occurs prior to the trip. A doctor’s note is necessary. The price is 6% of the total cost of the trip.
Weather
The weather in Jordan in September is hot and dry with temperatures reaching a high of 35 degrees Celsius (95 Fahrenheit). There is low humidity in Jordan in September.
Clothing and shoes
It is not a problem to run Petra Marathon in singlet and shorts – men and women alike. Due to the hot weather light and bright coloured clothing is recommended. Be aware that the morning may be chilly prior to the start, so a top layer that can be removed shortly before the start is a good idea.
The race course is approximately 50% asphalt and 50% gravel and sand. The race can be run in a pair of normal running shoes, but trail shoes can be used as well if you feel more comfortable with those. There is very little shade on the route, so sunglasses or a running cap is recommended as well as sunscreen is a good idea.
